Meet Our Members

The Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur (CLS) Committee members are elected at the Annual General Meeting and hold office for one year. The Society’s calendar year generally starts from March.

The Committee’s main function is to set policies and monitor activities for the best interest of its members.

Stanislaus Cross

President

Stanislaus Cross is the President of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. He graduated from the University of London in 1999 and completed the Certificate in Legal Practice in 2000 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2002. Stanislaus is also a member of the archdiocesan Apostleship of the Sea (AOS) which caters for the needs of seafarers.

Kevin De Rozario

Vice-President

Kevin De Rozario is the Vice President of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. He graduated with a LL.B. (Hons) degree from the University of London, England in 1996 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1998. Kevin is also a member of the Community Action Network (CAN) Malaysia since 2001.

Xenia Lok Zou Chieh is the Secretary of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. She graduated from the University of Sheffield, England in 2000, and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2011.

Christina Param is the Asst. Secretary of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. She graduated from the Multimedia University (MMU), Malacca in 2018 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2018 at the High Court of Malaya, Seremban.

Alexandar Govindasamy is the Treasurer of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. He is a graduate from the University of Malaya and he completed his Certificate in Legal Practice in 2012. G. Alexandar was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2017.

Trevor Padasian is a Committee Member of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. He graduated from the Australian National University and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1991 and thereafter called to the Malaysian Bar in 1993.

Godfrey Thomas Fernandez is the Ex- President of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. He graduated from the University of London, England in 1993 and went on to complete the Certificate in Legal Practice in 1995. Godfrey was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1996.

Melissa Linda Dass is a Committee Member of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. She graduated from Staffordshire University, England in 2000. She has been with with the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee since August 2006 as an Executive Officer, since December 2013 as the Senior Assistant Director and the Executive Director since April 2021. She is a member of the Society of St Vincent De Paul and is currently the Secretary of the Selangor State Council and the Secretary of the Holy Trinity Conference overseeing Rumah Ozanam Petaling Jaya. She was formerly the President of the Assumption Conference from 2020 to 2024.

Rev. Fr. Gregory Chan was an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in the 1990s to the mid 2000s focusing on Human Rights and Marriage & Family Law. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in 2013. He was Director of the Archdiocese Single Adults & Youth Office (ASAYO) of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur from 2015 to 2021. He is the Priest-delegate for the Professional Standards Office Committee for Child Protection, Ecclesiastical Assistant and Chaplain for the Catholic Lawyers’ Society Kuala Lumpur and the Parish Priest of the Church of the Assumption, Petaling Jaya.

Claudia Lynette Silva is a Committee Member of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. She graduated from the University of Essex, England in 2017 and completed her Bar Professional Training Course at Cardiff in 2018, and was Called to the Bar of England and Wales. She is also a member of the Inner Temple. She has also obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) in 2019 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2021.

Melissa Dass is a Committee Member of the Catholic Lawyers Society Kuala Lumpur. She graduated from Staffordshire University, England in 2000. She has been with the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee since August 2006 as an Executive Officer and since December 2013 as the Senior Assistant Director. Aims and Objectives

Our Commitment to Legal Excellence and Social Justice

The aims and objectives of the Society are:

  • To promote justice and peace through the rule of law in the spirit of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • To uphold the principles of the Rukun Negara.
  • To create and foster unity among Catholic lawyers through the Eucharist, the Bible, and Prayer, to sanctify themselves and to foster more perfect lives under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  • To promote fellowship and understanding among Catholic lawyers.
  • To render assistance and works of piety or charity to organisations and individuals whenever needed.
  • To provide a forum for the discussion on matters of interest to Catholics.

Membership Eligibility

  1. Persons of the following classes shall be eligible for ordinary membership of the Society:
    • Lawyers of the Catholic faith, residing or working in Kuala Lumpur or its surrounding areas;
    • Persons of the Catholic faith who are residing or working in Kuala Lumpur or its surrounding areas and who are:
      • eligible to practice the legal profession in any jurisdiction or country other than Malaysia; or
      • sitting or retired judges of any superior or subordinate court in Malaysia; or
      • lecturers or tutors in any faculty or school of law of any university or college situated in Kuala Lumpur or its surrounding areas.
  2. Persons of the following classes who are of the Catholic faith shall be eligible for associate membership of the Society:
    • Undergraduates or students in any faculty or school of law of any university or college situated in Kuala Lumpur or its surrounding areas and enrolled in any course of study leading to the award of a degree in law or to the Certificate in legal Practice. No university or University college student shall be eligible for membership unless with the prior approval of the Vice-Chancellor of the University concerned.
  3. In the event of any doubt with regard to the eligibility of any person to membership (ordinary or associate) of the Society, the Committee’s decision shall be binding.
  4. Associate members shall not be required to pay any entrance fees or annual subscriptions or other dues.
  5. Every applicant whose application has been approved shall upon payment of the prescribed entrance fee be admitted as a member of the Society. Every ordinary member shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership including the power to vote and to hold office. Associate members shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership except that they shall neither be entitled to vote nor to hold office.
